What is the difference between the 78 and 78E? Were there two models? I thought every 78 was an E. Or was there a non US model that lacked the E designation?

                          what the E?

                          Hi 2fast,
                          the E suffix is Yamaha's way of saying " it's a '78 "
All '78 Yamahas were suffixed E and the Special versions were suffixed SE.
Marque snobs would claim that it's the '78 that's redundant.
                          Fred Hill, S'toon.

As far as I know there where no 78 specials. The special was introduced in 78 but was an F model denoteing it as a 79. If there is a bike designated as a 78 EF, Then somebody has got creative with the paperwork, or, this is XStreamly rare and would be worth BOOOKOOS bucks.
